If you’re like most American, the thought of retiring early has a very strong appeal.

Unfortunately, if you’re like most Americans, you’ll never realize your early retirement dream.

Short of hitting the lottery or getting a large inheritance, most people lack the savings to realistically expect to retire early.

Their early retirement plans consist of an employer sponsored 401K… and hope for a lot of luck.

What’s really needed is a plan to reduce your debt, increase your savings, and have a system that provides a residual income during your retirement years. All three of these things are very achievable with a little effort.

All three of these things are tied together. In order to retire early in a manner that you want to live, you need all three parts of the plan.

Having too much debt eats up money that could be going into investments. Investments are one way to earn residual income. However, when there isn't any extra money for debt reduction it can all seem very hopeless.

For many people, the only option if they’re serious about reducing their debt is to increase their income. This usually means getting a second job or starting a small business on the side.

Getting that second part-time job is not as easy as it used to be. With unemployment on the rise there are a lot of people competing for those jobs. Your current job may limit your availability, which will limit the job opportunities available.

The other option may be starting that small business. This would provide more income, which will help you to reduce your debt and increase your savings… and it will also provide you with a residual income you can draw on well into your retirement years.

Many early retirement plans don’t include a residual income, and as the person enters the later years in their life the money starts to get very tight. Instead of living the lifestyle they dreamed of living, they have to scrimp and save, watching every penny.

For those that are interested, the Internet provides a lot of opportunities to start your own business. You can work when you want and where you want. Because it’s your own business you aren't tied to a set schedule like you would be working for someone else.

As long as you have a connection to the Internet you can be working. That means that you can work from home, the local coffee shop, or even your retirement condo. You can travel the world and still operate your business.

Setting early retirement plans before you get close to your retirement age gives you the opportunity to have things set up before you retire. Don't allow time to get away from you and force you to continue working into your retirement years.
