Worried About Jobs After Retirement?Looking at whether jobs after retirement will be necessary for you... If you're recently retired, you may be wondering what you're going to do with all that spare time on your hands. Even though you've been anticipating retirement for a long time, it can be somewhat scary at first. No longer do you have to get up early, go to work every day and work so many hours per day. If you enjoyed your job, you are definitely going to miss it. If, however, you are one of the unfortunate ones that weren't happy at their job and just put in their time until retirement, chances are you won't miss it. Even so, you will still have all that time available. If you're contemplating looking for other jobs after retirement, you'll be amazed at the many you will find. Dealing with the FrustrationWork after retirement may be easy or difficult to find depending on what you're looking for, how many hours you wish to work and what kind of a salary you hope to receive. There are many jobs available once you decide what you're looking for. Keep in mind, however, that finding the right job isn't going to be quite as easy as it was when you were young and just joining the workforce. Too many employers today underestimate how much the elderly can contribute towards their company. They don't understand that you can offer something that young employees can't: life-long experiences and knowledge that it's taken a lifetime to attain. Looking for work after retirement may be depressing at first. Some companies aren't real willing to hire a senior citizen unless they know them personally. While this is very unfortunate, and even against many laws, it still happens. If you live in a small community where everyone knows everyone else, you may note encounter these kinds of difficulties. Where to LookOnce you've decided how many hours you wish to work on jobs after retirement and what type of salary you'd like to receive, you can begin job searching. Your local job service can be very helpful in helping to place you in the right job for you. They have resources available to them that you won't find by looking in the classifieds of your newspaper. Many online sites may be available to you and may show available jobs after retirement in your area. You may also want to check out "help wanted" signs you see in windows, especially if you are familiar with the area. Some Points to ConsiderSome considerations you may wish to look into are your retirement and pension benefits you've earned through your many years of working. You may lose a portion of your benefits if you begin working for a salary. Social Security does allow you to make a certain amount of income before you lose your benefits and then you'll lose $1 for every $2 you earn at your job. It's important to check this out before you begin applying for jobs after retirement. With taxes being taken out of your paycheck and the high price of fuel, make sure you're actually coming out ahead by working after retirement. Planning Properly NowWith all that said, wouldn't you rather just have a "real" retirement where you aren't stuck looking for a job? I mean, c'mon, you've spent all your life worrying about money and jobs, right? If you allow lack of planning or lack of personal goals/personal growth aspirations to cause you to be broke, then I can't help you. However, if you decide to take responsibility for your own life and happiness, then I have some suggestions for you. Act as if you will never receive Social Security benefits or something from your employer, IRA, etc. Act as if you must fund your entire retirement all on your own (if you're on the younger side, you will!) Begin investigating small business avenues where you can create multiple streams of income. Real estate can provide you solid income during retirement that is much higher than working at the local Walmart. You could buy investment properties now while working, pay them off and then use the rent for income after "retiring". You could also sell some of them for big windfalls later in life. You could invest in tax liens. Real estate offers multiple ways to bring in income. You could learn to build websites around your personal interests/hobbies. Each small website could bring you $250, $500, $1000 or more per month in income. How many such websites would you need to realize your dream monthly income? Figure it out now. Take an Interest in Your Growth as a PersonIf you reach retirement and get bored, it's because you have given up on your own personal growth. If you see yourself retiring to the easy chair and 10 hours of boring TV every day, it's time to take responsibility for your misery. Try reading a book such as "The Magic of Thinking Big", by David Schwartz and get a glimpse of what successful people do to find happiness. It's up to you to take an interest in growing as a person. If you don't you're destined for misery, no matter your financial situation. Remember, you're either growing or dying. Make sure you become one of the happy people where finding jobs after retirement is a process that involves your overall life plan...not a process that results from your lack of planning.
